• December 2011 - Suits and graffiti...

I still find it strange seeing Christmas decorations in the tropics but the festive spirit is certainly present!

This month was predominantly a broadcast month, working for Australian, French and German clients. The highlights included a story on the number of Australians working in the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort complex, a story about the crossover between fashion and graffiti in Singapore and a business feature about the relationship between Asia and Europe in light of the growing economic crisis.

Have a look at the youtube page to see some of the clips.

Other than that, finished off the last of the CNA voiceovers and kept myself busy with more corporate work.

There was some rather sad news as well at the start of the month - Teresa Hsu, Singapore's oldest person and a remarkable woman who devoted her life to helping others, passed away at the beginning of the month aged 113 (she was born in 1898). I met Teresa a few months ago whilst filming a story with Liz Neisloss for CNN. Despite her age, Teresa had a keen sense of humour and was great fun to work with.

  • November 2011 - can't beat a new camera!

November was one of those crazy months, jam-packed with different events and jobs to manage - from grounded Qantas planes and crazy K-pop dance moves to becoming an overnight expert on Malaysia's Monsoon Cup and filming the President of the National University - all par for the course in sunny Singapore!

And all this in addition to the ongoing corporate requests and voicing another few episodes for Channel News Asia's "Geared for Growth". Produced by Pear Forss and Overt Media, the series airs on CNA every Monday at 8.30pm - definitely worth watching!!

Stay tuned....more to come in December!

  • NEWSFLASH!!! - A cameraman with an early Christmas present!! New toy! New toy!!

It was time to say thanks...and move on. And so I did. Leaving the Z1 behind and after much deliberation between the EX1s, the AF100s and other potential contenders, the new Panasonic HPX250 won out. More details (and perhaps even a review) to follow but so far so good and the 22x zoom is just simply awesome!!

  • October 2011 - Back in the saddle

October didn't beat September but then we all knew it wouldn't! But I am currently voicing an 8-part business feature series to be aired on Channel News Asia - links will follow when it goes on air!

Thanks to CNN and Liz Neisloss, I had the opportunity to meet Anuradha Koirala, one of CNN's Top 10 Heroes - a formidable Nepalese lady trying to fight sex trafficking.

I also spent some time filming dogs being groomed (don't ask), arranged a two camera shoot for a wealth management summit and helped chronicle another chapter in the Qantas saga for an Australian broadcaster.

  • September 2011 - a cameraman's journal

Where to start...??!! Formula 1 for Team LotusRenault, a Jakarta jaunt to cover a visiting EU Commissioner, a shindig with a Korean boys' band, a shakedown with the money makers from PricewaterhouseCoopers, a photoshoot (and tasting session!) for a visiting French Champagne company and, to top it all off, a one-on-one with S R Nathan who, until two weeks ago, was President of Singapore!

Not sure what October has up its sleeve...

  • August 2011 - Voices, corporate videos and 2 camera shoots! And voices...

2 camera shoots, a couple of voiceovers and some carbon credit trading - not in that order, but nearly...and a piece for Greenpeace about the handover ceremony for the Rainbow Warrior 2 which will now become a mobile hospital ship in Bangladesh. Great idea! Watch the video b-roll

  • June 2011 - A cameraman, a swedish bus and a Princess...

Oooh...the 7D...fun!! And amazing pictures! Not the best for ENG or news work but it was great for filming some Scania buses in and around Singapore for a Swedish production house. I'd say that was the highlight of the month really...that and arranging coverage in China for a visiting Princess...!

  • May 2011 - Vote for a Pope, but not in that order...

So May was another busy month that saw Singaporeans taking to the polls to vote in their general election (see the video).

And just to remind me that news is fun, I met with American Manga producer, Jonathan Lim of Manga Hero, who has produced a Manga about the life of Pope John Paul II called 'Habemus Papam'.

Jonthan was in town to meet with local artist Sean Lam to put the finishing touches to the Manga.

And just when things were looking quiet...a regional client urgently needed help getting footage out of Indonesia!

  • April 2011 - Read on!

    Some great stories this month!

    • Dominique Fillon, brother of French Prime Minister François Fillon, was in Singapore as part of his Asian tour – not to promote political causes, but to wow the crowds with his concerts! A fun couple of days spent with Dominique, an accomplished jazz pianist, filming a story for France 24.

    • Teresa Hsu is 112 years old and despite her age continues to help the needy and encourage the younger generations to be more giving and generous. A fun lady with a sharp sense of humour! A fun story partly shot for CNN in Singapore

    • And finally, a trip underground to visit Singapore’s latest structural project: a massive oil storage facility built under the seabed. In a country where land is in short supply, the government is finding new ways to maximise the space available.
